Job Description

I am working with a software house that has been in business for over 30 years and now employees close to 2000 people across international offices.

With their products being used globally there is a strong focus on ensuring their products meet global accessibility standards, which is where you come in.

Working in a product team focussing on a software product which enables stocks and shares to be traded you will not only be a Senior UI Engineer but also an accessibility champion who can question the status quo and ensure the product is accessible for all.

Here are some of the key aspects of the role:

  • Working with Accessibility consultants and international stakeholders you will ensure the product meets WCAG 2.0 standards and ensure that accessibility is at the forefront of the product teams mind at all times.
  • Sticking to the highest levels of engineering quality standards to ensure the products are built to the highest grade possible.
  • Working with senior client stakeholders to understand their needs and desired outcomes for the product.
  • Improve the skill set of those around you.
  • Actively seek to improve your skill-set through learning and observing those around you.
  • Challenge each product decision that you feel decreases the accessibility of the product.

Here is the tech stack you will be working with and will need to have senior experience working within;

  • Javascript – React.js for the new product/feature development and ideally some Knockout.js experience as there is some legacy code to maintain also.
  • Typescript.
  • Super solid HTML and CSS chops.
  • AWS cloud exposure would be a big plus.
  • If you have used Axe for accessibility testing then that’s great, but any other testing platform is of equal benefit.
  • WCAG 2.0 standards experience i.e. you have a folio of web apps you have worked on in which you directly helped to achieve/maintain AA+ standards.

On offer is the chance to work with a leader in their field and a software house that understands how to employ and challenge software engineers.

The role is based in Melbourne and you will have to be based in Melbourne to gain the position as there will be a need to go to the lovely offices once things feel a little more ‘normal’.
